Whisper was a gladiator on Scira. She was rescued by the Lost Light and is starting anew.

Quiet, intense, rueful and passionate.

Outlier Ability

Whisper used to have the ability to create sonic waves -- up to the intensity of a sonic boom via a sonic 'scream' -- and to destroy structures with vibrations resonating across sound frequencies. This could also be used to create radio interference and cause temporary audial deafness in others, although of course this was an area effect and nonselective as to collateral damage. This ability is now completely defunct and cannot be revived.

History

A long time ago, when Whisper was new, she was forged Screamshock of Iacon. Her outlier ability was essentially a destructive gift, although its flexibility in the use of sound waves meant that creative appplications existed outside of the battlefield. Young in outlook and hotshot in propensity, she joined the Decepticons early, passionate about perceived inequality but following along with the crowd as much out of a sense of bright delight in sheer rebellion and in violence as because of deep held beliefs. As an outlier with great potential for usefulness in a functionist world, her privilege shielded her from the worst of the reality. In short, she became a Decepticon at first because she was just fucking around, for the sheer hell of it.

Shit got real quickly. Her body and abilities were forged in Iacon before the war, but her conceptions of the world were forged in the heat of a battling hierarchical structure in which she struggled with such concepts as /authority/. Other Decepticons who had trouble following orders tended to plot and backstab, maybe, but for Screamshock, a frontal assault was always preferable to sneaking about. This meant that she was cured of her insubordinate streak with extreme prejudice by dint of discipline early and often. Eventually, she found her place within the Decepticons. She was arrogant and hot-tempered, entitled and fierce and full of herself, but she learned when to hold her tongue.

Ironically enough.

Throughout the long war, she fought and killed and delighted in triumph. At first she killed without remorse and delighted in the bloodbath, because she was unique, and good, and she had a knack with guns, and was unstoppable with her screams, and knowing she was unstoppable was intoxicating. A born warrior, she fought with her whole heart, took risks, and made them pay off. She loved it. She lived for it.

Near the end of the war, she and a detachment of other flyers, scouts, and spacecraft were on a mission for Megatron, scouting through some outflung planetary systems in search of more resources to plunder so as to build towards an advantage that the Autobots couldn't match in a war that the Decepticons had almost -- but not quite -- already lost. They were ambushed by an overwhelming force -- not of Autobots, which they might have expected -- but of organic aliens who had been tracking them for some time. These aliens managed to kill or capture her entire detatchment, and they were sold at a massive profit to an arena of pit fighting gladiators run by a renegade Cybertronian named Crazy Eight.

Screamshock was a terror in the arena. She at first refused to fight her fellow Decepticons, and they held out the hope of rescue, but it didn't come. Deprivation, close quarters, and a constant barrage of discipline finally resulted in a snap amongst the crew. Screamshock wasn't the first to fight of the team -- but she was the last one standing. In the end, she fought them all. Some she killed herself. Others she simply watched die.

She became a gladiator, because there was nothing else.

Crazy Eight issued a challenge one day, that if he could be beaten in single combat, the fighter who defeated him would have her freedom. Screamshock killed the last of her own Decepticon crewmates so that she could get a chance at him. By the time she earned the chance to fight, she was teetering on the verge of her own destruction, but she let out one final sonic scream and rushed him.

She didn't die. She didn't win. When she awoke, she was back in her cell, beaten to within an inch of death. She had no voice. She had no scream. She would never scream again.

She lived and fought and killed in the arena on Scira for a couple of years of vicious and tortuous voiceless torment. Because she had no voice, she became, instead of Screamshock of Iacon, Whisper of Cybertron. Or Whisper of Scira. There was nothing else left.

Until the Lost Light came to Scira, and freed her, and gave her the chance at vengeance, and more: the chance to move beyond vengeance, to attach herself to a mission again, become someone else. The Lost Light's medical staff gave her back her voice, although not her scream.

What comes next? Whisper owes the crew of the Lost Light more than her life. She owes this ship her hope. Her honor. Her reason for being. Yet it's full of Autobots, on a mission of faith that she doesn't care about, because she has no faith.
