Whetstone was forged along the Keystead Ridge in Uraya, in a relatively early pulse wave. In a time he can't remember, he'd been among the eager groups to seek out other forged sparks in the living metal of Cybertron, and aided in harvesting the new life. He'd been particularly fond of the ceremony surrounding it all.

The era of a corrupt senate found Whetstone facing troubled times, naturally. He toiled with the rest of the animal-types, scrapping over the rare offer of temporary jobs, until a mech looking to capitalize on the burgeoning gladiator fights in Kaon scooped the desperate wyvern out of the street.

The bloodsport was hard to adapt to, as minor as his matches were, wedged between the bigger names in pitfighting. The terror that came with risking one's own spark was only dulled by time and the strange sense of pride Whetstone occasionally garnered, standing atop a bloodied mech and facing a cheering crowd. Luck and circumstance allowed the praise draw him further into the savagery of his "job", and he grew hardened to mercy, but the growing Decepticon movement worried him as pressure bore down on him to join up. The eventual clampdown on dissidents spooked Whetstone into leaving, and ultimately hitching a ride off-planet during the Exodus.

He stayed with the Circle of Light under Dai Atlas. They were naive mechs that seemed far too charitable in his eyes, but it meant energon if he contributed to their new city. The extended time around bots that held no malice, bots that sought to create and preserve - it'd been so starkly different than everything Whetstone had witnessed. He was drawn to their ethos, and eventually began pulling the weight that he'd promised, until he underwent the rituals to become a Knight. He took an interest in inscription, and spent his off hours etching holy text into weaponry, when he wasn't sparring. Fellow knights noticed how their weapons seemed sharper after matches with him, so they nicknamed him Whetstone.

After the Lost Light's rescue of their kidnapped numbers, Whetstone remained on the ship with the various other Circle of Light members that chose to stick around. With their city in ruins, their leader dead and their numbers greatly diminished, it just made sense to travel with Drift, the HOLY HARBINGER of PRIMUS, to ensure the endless burning of the Light.
