Breakdown is a loyal Decepticon heavy who managed to go through the whole war while still giving a shit about the Cause. He's good about orders and enjoys recreational hitting stuff. A little paranoid and has some unresolved anger and resentment issues. Big fists. Protects Knock Out with his life for some reason.
Breakdown is a bully, and has pretty much always been a bully. He’s anger and uncertainty wrapped up in a package of prickle, doubt and occasional paranoia. His early life was all frustration, thrown into sharp relief by brief moments of triumph. That triumph grew addictive, and with the Decepticons, he grew to crave it.
Although he’s not the sharpest crayon in the box, he’s not stupid; his wit comes in short bursts, occasionally modulated by attempts to better himself above his station by trying to read things and learn more about history and culture. This manifests itself sometimes in unexpected ways, but it’s not a non-shame-based activity for him, and he tends to secrete it behind a mask. Restless and discontented and living in a world of generalized misery, Breakdown is plagued by class-based shame and uncertainty even as he strives to better himself.
His best and most defining trait is his personal loyalty. He will protect his friends with everything that he has. At the moment he is somewhat carried away with passion and rhetoric and the idea of destroying all and making anew, but what really drives him isn’t so much what’s happened to him — this is part of it — but watching the world grind down those he likes or has respect for, and being unable to do anything about it. He loves hard and uncomplicatedly; he incorporates himself readily into power structures not in the role of the leader, because he isn’t, but as one of nature’s henchman, needing direction. Just aim him and fire, and he’ll go like a cannonball.
Breakdown was a truck by function on Cybertron at the beginning. He worked as a low-caste hauler, doing the dregs of the work in a beaten-down way, but he wanted more for himself. At first this manifested as the desire to race. He met with other discontents in the streets after hours in the early days before the war, and they did stunt-racing and dangerous demolition derbies. He was never a brilliant racer, but he did form connections with a few others, and found himself attending more and more unauthorized and increasingly activist events. When the war began, Breakdown was already a true believer, a Decepticon, and one among the Stunticons.
Although he was always a little paranoid and neurotic, he grew to love the violence as an expression of deep-seated rage and resentment he had carried since he was forged. Over the centuries, he proved himself a rare thing among the Decepticons: loyal. He was loyal to the Cause; he was loyal to Megatron; he was loyal to the Stunticons; and he developed a deep loyalty and friendship with Knock Out that eventually grew into something more, even if it did probably start with him getting his head handed to him in battle a few too many times.
He experimented over the years with changes to his alt mode; when the Decepticons went to Earth, he adopted a racing form with the other Stunticons, but found in the end when he returned to Cybertron that he preferred to return to his roots.
Breakdown never was entirely ready for the war to be over. The seed of violence inside himself hasn’t been quenched. And, loyal spark that he is, he will follow Soundwave to the ends of the galaxy.
