Blast Off is a study of contradictory self-denial. A study of someone torn between wanting to act with class and dignity and someone who can also be cold, self-centered, and arrogant. He is aloof, aristocratic in demeanor, so very much NOT a people person. His arrogance and lack of people skills gets him in trouble sometimes and makes it difficult for anyone to really know him well. He finds people confusing and hurtful, so he tends to shove them away by acting aloof and superior. Of course, that just makes people more hostile to him. He doesn’t know how to deal with that, so he tries convincing himself he simply doesn’t *want* people around despite his very real loneliness. It creates a vicious circle- one he doesn’t know how to break. He tends to throw up walls of denial and defensiveness to shield himself- often without realizing it.

He does think highly of himself and is extremely proud to be a shuttle, often coming across as pompous and egotistical as a result. However, he’s also trying to prove himself. He’s spent a lot of time as a prisoner and as a mercenary- he’s never quite fit in except with his fellow Combaticons. People often don’t seem to relate to him. He tries to convince people of his worth- how *magnificent* he is… but it usually just comes across as more pompousness. However, if someone somehow breaks through all the walls he puts up, they’ll find he’s also got a thoughtful, rather decent side. He’s a “gentlemech” who appreciates the finer things and enjoys the quiet pursuit of more intellectual and cultured passions. And while he very much needs his personal space, he would like someone to share it with. He just has to trust them first, and that takes a lot of time.

Blast Off can be cold and indifferent at times. Think of the saying “Evil wins when good men do nothing.” Blast Off is not a “good man” nor is he an “evil” one, but he is the one capable of looking the other way as greater evil occurs. He can hurt or kill others and see nothing wrong with it if it’s for some reason he decides is worthy. There is a more aggressive part of him that truly relishes a good fight and demonstrating his skills. He is a Combaticon, after all, and it’s practically hard-wired into him. However, outside of battle he just wants to have people leave him alone and is content to do the same.

Blast Off values personal choice perhaps highest of all. He tends to resent authority, be naturally rebellious, and his loyalty is usually rather questionable. However, he is capable of loyalty and when it occurs it’s quite solid. For instance, he may act like the other Combaticons are a huge annoyance in his life- but he’d risk his neck to make sure they all got safely off the battlefield when they’re working together. Perhaps it’s the shuttle in him- making sure everyone gets home.
