Beachcomber is neither very fast nor very strong, and his antiwar sentiments gain him little respect from the more martial of the Autobots, yet he is agile and skilled in a fight, and his courage is beyond all reproach.
Laid back, chill, and a little spacey. Beachcomber is friendly to (almost) everyone, ready to forgive and forget and see what life looked like outside of war once more. (But being puppeted into doing horrible things and having something explode inside your head ... while he was ready to forgive, it left him leery of one bot in particular.)
Beachcomber's spark and metal hails from Ibex, but whether that's where he's spent most of his online days is unlikely. As a naturalist and a spiritualist, he's a bit on the nomadic side and thus spent a lot of time wandering between cities before the war fell into full swing. A scientist by birth, his natural curiosity tends to lead him to wandering off sometimes - a habit which tends to get him into trouble both physically and with the command staff.
Small and densely built, he's compact for fitting into tight spaces and surviving rockslides and cave collapses to dig himself out. He may not be able to lift a mountain on his own like Brawn, but as long as he can survive a couple tons of rock falling on his head he can probably cut himself out. Beachcomber's geology tools include a wide array of sensors (magnetic, seismic, sonic, infrared) and a 'sonic pick' which can cut through rock. Beachcomber can use his magnetic sensors to navigate like a compass, but local magnetic disturbances can cause this to lead him astray. His sonic probes possess only limited range.
His easy going nature was disrupted briefly by Soundwave mind controlling him and forcing him to hunt and murder his friends, almost including Blaster, which came to an end when he resisted the probe and caused it to explode in his processor, sending him into a coma for a time; but he pulled through and returned to the ranks in time for a rather eventful tour of Earth.
The political atmosphere of Cybertron with the NAILs returning to the planet and Starscream taking control really harshed his vibe; and with the war over and the armies disbanding, the allure of exploration was simply too strong for his curious little scientist spark to resist. New worlds! New and interesting planetary compositions to study and minerals to collect! How could he resist with such a tempting treat and another chance to use his forge-granted skills being dangled right in front of him? And though Soundwave was on board the Lost Light, even given their somewhat rough and tumultuous history he was still a far cry better than Starscream.
