Even in war, there are laws. Ultra Magnus, Duly Appointed Enforcer of the Tyrest Accord, is the thin blue line that enforces those laws. He tolerates no deviation from the order of things, and in the aftermath of the war, is a bastion for law and righteousness, keeping things shipshape in a universe warped by chaos (i.e., Rodimus).
Ultra Magnus is a paper-pusher paladin. He cares very deeply about right and wrong in exactly the same way as he cares about the balance of order and chaos. The nexus of right and order is the only place he is happy. There’s a reason he never smiles. He feels the weight of his responsibility as the only way that he can actually accomplish /good/, and he uses it with an evenhanded certainty. He is both a very powerful tool in the hands of the righteous and a very dangerous one in the hands of the unrighteous. He is very intelligent but his core is not difficult to suss which makes him not impossible to manipulate. He is suspicious and dubious and skeptical, but at his heart, an idealist to his bedrock. He wants things to be the way they should be. His need for order is compulsive, obsessive. He is thorough and detail-oriented and very occasionally inclined to drama, specifically drama with respect to those things that anchor his passion. Specifically, abstracts. Justice. Rightness. And, of course, the pinnacle of all things, order.
Ultra Magnus is not, contrary to all appearances, without a sense of humor, but his sense of the ridiculous is bounded within forms that make its appearance very rare. It manifests sometimes in a very, very dry way. He doesn’t joke, but he can be ironic, sardonic, and edge humor by being very dry. Although designed by nature to be the straight man of the universe, he is too intelligent and aware to not realize that it is happening. It’s just that for the most part he doesn’t care about being the butt. His dignity is important to him, but while Ultra Magnus knows that his self is important, he isn’t interested in self-importance over and above the importance of /ideas/.
His personal life is not so much nonexistent as very carefully without interest. Some people work to live but Magnus lives to work. Time spent not working is ground lost to the forces of entropy, which are constant. He is a painstaking perfectionist. His doubts are very private, but they fuel him to ever greater obsession.
